BATHERS
Painting women who are thinking, feeling and emoting is my mission.
I’m not a swimmer but I’m drawn to figures in the sun; the play of light and shadow. I also like necks and shoulders, hence the bathing caps.
Many years ago, I was digging in my basement and found a photograph of my mother and her sisters by the ocean from 1941. I was drawn to the grace in the lines of their bodies and I couldn’t help wondering what they were thinking.
I’ve circled back to painting bathers over the last 15 years, finding endless intrigue in the tilt of the head and sway of a limb.
I hope you wonder as well, what they are thinking…
